The Public Authority for Electricity and Water is a governmental institution which is supervised by Ministry of National Economy that aims to provide electricity and water to citizens, institutions and facilities of all kinds. By Royal Decree No. (58/2009), the Authority had its own juridical personality, financialand administrative independency. The board of directors is composed of the Head (Secretary General of the Ministry of National Economy) and his/her deputy (Head of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water), and three part-time members appointed by decision of the Ministers' Cabinet.
The Public Authority for Electricity and Water was founded on 9th of September 2007 by the Royal Decree No. (92/2007), and under the requisites of the two royal decrees no. (58/2009) and (59/2009) issued on October 11, 2009. The system of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water, regulations and provisions were announced in the first decree, and the second was to clarify some provisions of the law changes and privatization of the electricity and water associated with it.

The Public Authority for Electricity and Water depends on different incomes such as water sector, services provided by the Authority to others, returns of the Authority's funds, loans obtained by the Authority after the annual approval of the Ministry of Finance and any other incomes approved by the Ministry of Finance.
